Hand-painted Lampshades
Acrylic on Linen-Covered Lampshade

This week it was time to paint our beige lampshades.

You can see from the couches and curtains that we needed something with more pop than beige.

My only regret or thing I would change would be to cover it in fabric.  Time-wise (after 3-4 coats of paint) I’m not sure if it would have made a difference.  Even though I used a light color for paint, it still cut the amount of light it gives off.  Oh well, it’s finished and we love the new color/design!

2 Are Better Than 1
48” x 20” Acrylic on Canvases
(3 - 16” x 20” canvases)

Kevin has been threatening to paint the 3 blank canvases hanging in our room for 2 years. I have had the intention of painting them since then and finally did so this week! Here are the once blank canvases:

In faded words there are verses and phrases that are reminders to us.  These paintings are based around a passage that says two are better than one and we realize that life is better when we’re on the same team.

Finish What I Started

This year I will be finishing the paintings in this post as part of 52 Projects.  There, I said it.

Normally I don’t like people looking over my shoulder while I’m painting/creating.  I fear they’ll critique it before my full idea is out there in whatever media.  So, this is unlike me.  Here is my unfinished work…

Coffee Paintings:  Still need shading and certain coffee drinks added to the cups. Plus a little steam coming off the top.

Tulips:  I started this to try oil painting.  Once the first coat dried (who knew the pigment red takes at least a day to dry), I was not inspired to finish.

Cathedral Ceiling:  I love perspective and have a small pencil drawing of this.  I obviously stopped after the first hour.  Too much measuring!

Van Gogh Starry Night, Rachel’s version:  I wanted lights shining from the church.  In Van Gogh’s Starry Night he symbolically darkened the church windows.  Not much to go…probably a couple more hours.

Thanks for previewing these.  Watch for the finished pieces to come!

Repainted Pottery & Finished Boxes
(I guess it’s 6 and 6.5 of 52 Projects)

This piece of pottery was formed 15 years ago when I was in the 8th grade and it was painted the colors of my room at the time (seafoam green, peach, and cream).  Back then, I thought it was lovely.  It evolved as I repainted it while in color to deeper colors.  As of this week it has a 3rd covering of paint.  It is now cream to better match my studio.

The second part of this week’s project:

These IKEA boxes were from a friend.  Originally they were just unfinished wood shadowbox frames.  I painted them and added little hinges and clasps.  Now they match the studio and act as storage for art supplies.

This one has some stamped/hand-painted cards I made while the paint was drying on the boxes. Hand-painted and graphic designed cards…another idea for 52 Projects.

Thanks for checking out this week’s 52 Projects!
